A VCF fleet can include one or more VCF domains that are implemented according to a supported VCF Domain Model. Each VCF Domain Model has options, requirements, and recommendations.

  • Management Domain Model

  • Workload Domain Model

Management Domain Model

The management domain in a VCF fleet hosts the management components of the VCF Instance where it is deployed and the management components of the fleet.

Management Domain Model Attributes

The Management Domain Model has the following attributes.

Attribute

Details

Resource Allocation

  • VCF fleet management components.

  • VCF Instance management components.

  • NSX Edge nodes.

  • Can also run business workloads.

Management Domain in the First VCF Instance

The management domain in the first VCF Instance contains the following management components:

– VCF management services (fleet and instance level components)

– VCF Operations

– Cloud Proxy

– VCF Operations for Networks

– VCF Automation

– ESX hosts

– vCenter

– NSX Manager

– SDDC Manager

Management Domain in Additional VCF Instances

Management domains in additional VCF Instances contain the following instance-level management components:

– VCF management services (instance-level components)

– Cloud Proxy

– ESX hosts

– vCenter

– NSX Manager

– SDDC Manager

Management Domain Model Options

A Management Domain Model can apply options from the design areas listed below, depending on objectives.

Design Area

Options

vSphere Cluster Models

  • First cluster:

– Single-Rack vSphere Cluster Model

– Multi-Rack Layer 2 vSphere Cluster Model

– Stretched vSphere Cluster Model (Day 2)

  • Additional clusters:

  • High Availability VCF Automation Model

NSX Manager Models

  • Simple NSX Manager Model

  • High Availability NSX Manager Model

Workload Domain Model

As you expand your VCF fleet, you add workload domains to a VCF Instance. Each workload domain is assigned a vCenter and NSX Manager.

Workload Domain Model Attributes

A Workload Domain Model has the following attributes
